Martek’s product focus is the development of nutritional products derived from microalgae, fungi and other microbes for the treatment of diseases in the area of inflammation, cognitive function and cardiovascular health. It has developed and patented two fermentable strains of microalgae which produce oils rich in docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). A similar patented process was developed for a fungus that produces an oil rich in arachidonic acid, ARA. Both DHA and ARA are important nutrients for optimal infant development. It’s product folio includes Neuromins brand DHA supplements containing life’sDHA is a vegetarian source of docosahexaenoic acid, DHA for pregnant women. Martek derives majority of its revenues from the product sales of infant formula that contains nutritional oils as well as from the product sales of Neuromins, a DHA dietary supplement. It also generates revenues through contract manufacturing for the production of enzymes, specialty chemicals, vitamins and agricultural specialty products.
